Sydney G. Smith, age 75, of Nixa, Missouri, surrounded by his loving family, went peacefully to his heavenly father on June 9th, 2023. He was born on June 29, 1947, to Clarence Smith and Marybel (Swallow) Smith, in Beallsville, Ohio.
Sid met Mary Ann in California in February 1981 and married in Las Vegas in September 1981. He loved Mary Ann with his whole heart and treated her like a diamond while she lovingly called him "Sugar”.
Sid loved his family, country, and God. He served as a Vietnam Veteran in the United States Navy, as well as, serving as a Veteran in the Coast Guard.
Sid had a heart of gold and could make anyone smile. He was a lifetime member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars and Fleet Reserve Association, and a member of the American Legion. Volunteer for the military organizations and JROTC Program, Delima Woods Community Council. Commander of the Ozark VFW for the past 10 years and VFW District 14 Chaplain, and VFW Service Officer. Distinguishing himself by being the recipient of numerous medals- National Defense Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Navy Good Conduct Medal, and the MO Lieutenant Governor’s Senior Service Award.
Sid loved his community and was in the Nixa Christmas parade as Santa Claus for 3 years. He helped many people and showed love in this world. He took in those he cared for so much so they considered him dad and papa. He will always be remembered and missed dearly by all those that were blessed to know him.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years Mary Ann Smith: Son Brian Smith and wife Mayra; daughter Jennifer Beth Smith; adopted daughter Patricia Webb and husband Rob; stepdaughters Leslie Ann Murray and Tracey Koelling, and husband Rob; with a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father Clarence Smith and mother Marybel Smith and son David Clayton Smith.
