Jerry Miller

Jerry Everett Miller was born on December 31, 1947 to Onie Taylor Miller and Nathan Miller in Marble Arkansas. He passed from this earth on September 3, 2023 in Springfield, Missouri. He is survived by his wife Bernadette, his son Brian Miller, daughter in law Kelly Miller, and grandson Everett Miller.

Also surviving are his sister, Ruby Hill, brothers Harold Miller and Samuel Miller, and daughter Michele Cornish. In addition he is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by sisters Irene, Louise Gum, Helen Vanderhoof, Lorene Green Vanderhoof and brother Dale Miller. His parents Nathan and Onie also predeceased him.
He enlisted in the Army in 1965 doing his basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana and earning his MOS in radio teletype communications. He continued his military career with four tours in West Germany and two tours in Vietnam. Following his second tour in Vietnam, he earned his aviator wings at Fort Rucker, Alabama in 1972. Throughout his career, he flew OH-58s, Hueys and finally his favorite, the Blackhawk helicopter. He was proud to be a maintenance test pilot and an instructor pilot for the Blackhawk. He was awarded the Army Master Aviator Badge, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal and the Air Medal. Retiring from the Army after 28 years, he moved the family to Missouri and was employed by Prime Trucking in Springfield. He retired in 2011 from Prime.
He had a love of flying, talking to people around the world with Amateur Radio and spending time with his son and grandson in his jeep.
He had a long journey with three types of cancer since 2004. Throughout his entire struggle, he remained positive and God loving. His grandson Everett gave him the encouragement to press on. He will be missed by many.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 11, 2023 in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Graveside service with full military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
